Heidelberg Materials Hellas Offices

Company

Heidelberg Materials Hellas S.A. (known until recently to the general public as "Halyps Cement" or "Halyps Building Materials") is one of the first industries established in the area of Aspropyrgos. It was originally founded in 1934 under the name "Stavros Kotsiras & Co." and in 1943, after seven years of operation and growth despite the difficult conditions of World War II, the company was re-established under the name "HALYPS CEMENT S.A."

The development of the cement industry after World War II was rapid. In the 1960s and 1970s, it employed around 300 workers. The company supplied cement throughout Greece and had expanded its activities abroad, particularly in the Middle East. In 1990, the company was acquired by CIMENTS FRANCAIS, and in 1992, following the acquisition of Ciments Francais by the Italian group Italcementi, it became a member of that group. Ciments Francais introduced know-how and best practices from this major European industry in various aspects of the company’s management and operations.

The factory, along with the aggregate quarry in Mandra, Attica, the ready-mix concrete company ET BETON, and the aggregates and ready-mix concrete company Domiki Beton based in Crete, solidified its strong presence in the Greek market. In 1998, the company Eurotech Cement Shpk was established, which operates a cement distribution station in Albania, of which Heidelberg Materials Hellas is the main shareholder. This increased the company's export capabilities and strengthened its role in the international cement production and trading field.

In 2017, following the acquisition of the Italcementi Group by the Heidelberg Cement Group, the company became a member of the Heidelberg Cement Group and continued its operations in cement production and trading, with its factory in Aspropyrgos, ready-mix concrete with three production units in Aspropyrgos, Gerakas, and Koropi, Attica, and aggregates through its quarry in Mandra, Attica.

Heidelberg Materials Hellas

Since 2022, the company has focused on cement production and trading through its cement factory in Aspropyrgos. After years of continuous investment, the cement factory now has a production capacity of over 900,000 tons per year and ensures more than 400 jobs directly or indirectly related to its activities.

In 2023, in a symbolic move for its future, the company announced its renaming to "Heidelberg Materials Hellas," aiming to align with the global vision of the Heidelberg Materials Group for a unified name in the countries where it operates. The renaming of Halyps to Heidelberg Materials Hellas reflects the broader transformations taking place within the Heidelberg Materials group at the international level, including the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing and the implementation of sustainable strategies. At the core of the group's efforts—being a pioneer in the path toward carbon neutrality and the circular economy in the building materials sector—lie sustainability and innovation. This is also reflected in the recent launch of the product lines evoZero and evoBuild®.

Today, the company implements an Environmental Management System according to the ELOT ISO 14001:2015 standard and a Health and Safety Management System according to the ELOT ISO 45001:2018 standard.

Finally, a key concern of the company is the development of the local community in the municipality of Aspropyrgos and beyond, through sponsorships and donations for educational, cultural, and social purposes.
